Apple iOS 15.4 Update: You can unlock your iPhone using Face ID while wearing a mask! 

The iOS 15.4 lets you use Face ID with a mask to unlock your iPhone. The Face ID analyses the unique characteristics around your eyes to open your iPhone. iPhone users  can use Face ID with a mask to authenticate apps, unlock your iPhone and use Apple Pay.

Follow these steps to set up Face ID with face masks

  • Ensure that your device has iOS 15.4 or later.
  • Go to settings> Face ID& Passcode.
  • Enable the Face ID with a Mask.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to set up Face ID.

If you are wearing glasses it is advised that you should set up the Face ID with mask on. The Face ID works fine with glasses and not with sunglasses as eyes are not visible The Face ID must see your eyes clearly to function.

Follow the steps mentioned below in order to use Face ID with glasses.

  • Open settings on your iPhone and then tap on Face ID & Passcode.
  • Scroll down and tap Add Glasses.
  • Tap continue and then follow the instructions on the screen.

iPhone users would keep this in mind that the Face ID with face masks feature is supported on iPhone 12 and later with 15.4 and later. The devices include Apple iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, some of the older iPhones like the iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS, and iPhone X.
